As we enter the final days of summer, I’ve been a little down.
This happens to me at the end of EVERYTHING I enjoy – the day after my wedding, the last few minutes of a great movie, the end of a vacation.
I learned in my 20s the very best way to pull myself out of it is to revisit my bucket list.
If you aren’t familiar, the bucket list was popularized in the early 2000s (culminating in a movie, which, admittedly, I have not watched) that is basically a list of experiences you’d like to have in your life.
Riding that cultural wave, I started making my list in 2009 and have been adding to it ever since.
More than once, back when we used to host frequently, I would find someone from the party had snuck upstairs and was sitting at my desk reading the bucket list I keep pinned above my computer. The conversations we would have about things they wanted in their life – sometimes while people were doing keg stands mere feet from us – were some of my favorite.
There’s something about being reminded of how big the world is – and that joy is found in both the unique and the mundane – that moves me out of grief for this thing that was and into optimism about the many things that could be.
Speaking of which, we are working on big changes to Worthmore. I’m still noodling on a few things, but looking forward to sharing it all with you right after Labor Day.
In the meantime, I’ll leave you with my bucket list JUST in case it’s what you need right now too.
