What I loved:
- Laura has 5 kids and is an incredibly successful author and thought leader. She’s walking the walk.
- (Probably relatedly) her advice is built to work even when things go wrong.
My key takeaways:
Her concept of an “ideal week” has become an incredibly helpful planning tool for me. I’ve been using it for the past 9 weeks (and haven’t fully hit my “ideal week” once!) yet things are 2x as enjoyable as before I started thinking this way.
“3x a week is a habit”: I used to think habits needed to be daily to count. Since my job and our family have grown, I constantly fail at daily, but I can usually hit 3x a week!
Create a backup slot: This has been a COMPLETE game changer. Before reading this book, every working day was filled, something unexpected would inevitably happen, and my work for the week would get pushed into the weekend to stay on track. Now I’ve created Friday mornings as a “back up slot” and I can get everything done each week without having to consistently work weekends.
Top 5 of the 40 books I read in 2023.
