Book + Wine Pairings for Your Holidays

I don’t know about you, but December evenings are some of my favorite. In my mind, I spend them drinking wine by the fireplace while reading a great book under a cozy blanket and listening to soft Christmas music. (The reality is a bit different, but a girl can dream!).

As women, we spend a lot of time thinking about others. And we love it. But it is nice to take a moment to breathe and remind yourself that you’re doing a great job.

With the help of Perrine’s, Atlanta’s premier wine shop, here are some of our recommended book + wine pairings for your holidays.

If you want to think: Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. This book traces the stories of two half-sisters and their offspring for eight generations. It’s the author’s first book and took her seven years to write. It’s complex and will stay with you – which is why we recommend it with a Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, like this 2015 Penner-Ash ($45).

If you want to feel good about humanity: A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. Set in Russia in the 1920s, this book is about a man who is restricted to a luxury hotel for the rest of his life. The historical backdrop is interesting, but it’s this character of this man – steady, loving, kind – that makes this a beautiful experience. We recommend it with the storied 2012 Chene Bleu “Heloise” ($85); check out this wine’s history in the product information section. Perhaps you can enjoy in one of these glasses ($35 for 2).

If you want to be inspired: Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes. I was totally sucked into Grey’s Anatomy, and then Scandal, and was excited to learn more about the mastermind behind those hits (and many others!). This book chronicles Shonda’s journey to bring more joy into her life. I probably won’t ever Eat-Pray-Love, but Year of Yes brings self-discovery into my Type A world. Since this is a story about a high-performing woman spending time on herself, we recommend it with a sparkling wine like the Camille Braun Brut ($27), perhaps in a lovely coupe ($64 for 4). Let’s celebrate!

If you are looking for gift ideas, perhaps one of these books + wines for those amazing people in your life.

Note: I do not receive any compensation for these recommendations.
